Flowers in a blue vase

Flowers in a blue vase

This painting is a fine result of Van Gogh’s experiments in colour. ‘Flowers in a Blue Vase’ is a fresh and colourful mixed bouquet. Vincent’s palette displays a full tonal range from deep brown and violet shadows to pearly whites and opalescent pinks.

He wrote about these colours to his sister Wil: “Pink, soft or bright green, light blue, violet, yellow, glorious red.”
